FemForce #88

FemForce #88, published in 1996 by AC Comics, stands as a notable entry in the long-running independent series that debuted in the mid-1980s. Created by Bill Black, the series functions as a nostalgic homage to the Golden and Silver Age of comic books, specifically celebrating the trope of the powerful, classic-style heroine. This issue continues the series' tradition of blending pulp adventure aesthetics with a tongue-in-cheek appreciation for the history of the medium, catering to fans of retro-styled superhero storytelling.

The visual identity of FemForce relies heavily on the legacy of pin-up art and traditional heroic iconography, reflecting Bill Black’s long-standing admiration for the work of artists like Joe Shuster and Jack Cole. Within the context of the mid-90s comic book market, which was often defined by hyper-stylized 'extreme' art, FemForce remained committed to its idiosyncratic, self-aware tribute to the past. It is recognized primarily by its dedicated community of collectors as a pillar of independent, creator-driven superhero comics.
