FemForce #90

FemForce #90, published by AC Comics in 1996, serves as a significant milestone in the long-running series created by Bill Black. The title originated in the 1980s as a nostalgic homage to the Golden Age of comics, focusing on a team of powerful female protagonists who operate in a world heavily influenced by the aesthetic and storytelling tropes of mid-century superhero adventures. By the mid-90s, the series had established a dedicated niche following, maintaining a consistent style that balanced classic pin-up artistry with ongoing serialized narratives.

The creative direction of this issue was spearheaded by Bill Black, who often took a hands-on approach to both writing and editing to maintain the cohesive retro-inspired brand identity of AC Comics. The design ethos prioritized character-driven action and traditional illustrative techniques, eschewing many of the grittier industry trends prevalent in the 1990s. While FemForce has always occupied a specialized corner of the comic book market, its endurance is attributed to its unwavering adherence to a distinct, campy, and stylized visual language that resonates with collectors of independent comics.
