Flare First Edition #11

Flare First Edition #11, published by Heroic Publishing in the early 1990s, is a significant installment in the ongoing chronicle of the character Flare, created by Dennis Mallonee. The series emerged during an era of independent superhero comics that often sought to pay homage to the Golden and Silver Age archetypes while exploring more contemporary narrative structures. Flare, known as Francine 'Frankie' Hailey, stands as a central figure in the Heroic Publishing universe, embodying the classic concept of a character endowed with cosmic solar power.

The visual identity of the series was defined by a rotating team of artists who focused on dynamic, high-energy action panels, reflecting the stylistic trends of 90s independent publishing. Issue #11 continues the character’s struggle against a variety of villains and existential threats that Mallonee frequently wove into the series. Like many issues in the run, #11 is noted by collectors primarily for its continuity within the smaller, tightly knit Heroic Publishing continuity, representing a snapshot of the small-press explosion that defined that specific decade of comic book history.
