Fortune Quest #8

Fortune Quest #8 is part of the fantasy comic book series published by Innovation Comics in the early 1990s. The series was based on the popular tabletop role-playing game campaigns run by game designer Jeff Grubb, which were eventually adapted into a narrative format. The issue sits within a niche period of independent comics that sought to bridge the gap between structured RPG storytelling and serialized monthly comic art, reflecting the aesthetic trends of the fantasy-adventure boom that characterized the industry at the time.

The visual identity of this issue was heavily influenced by the contemporary Dungeons & Dragons art style, aiming to capture the collaborative energy and episodic nature of a quest. The series was designed to appeal to gamers and readers who appreciated character-driven fantasy, though it ultimately served a smaller, dedicated audience. Its reception was largely centered within the tabletop gaming community, where it was appreciated for its dedication to the source material and its earnest attempt to translate the camaraderie of a game table into a printed medium.
