Four Color #1205

Four Color issue 1205, published in 1961 by Dell Comics, represents the final period of the iconic Four Color anthology series. This specific issue featured the character Turok, Son of Stone, who had transitioned from backup features to a lead role. The series was created to test various characters and concepts, acting as a rotating platform for licensed properties and original narratives that defined the mid-century newsstand comic market.

The character Turok was designed by artists Rex Maxon and Matthew Murphy, drawing upon the mid-century fascination with lost-world adventure narratives. By the time of issue 1205, the artwork relied on the established house style of Dell, focusing on clear, accessible sequential storytelling that appealed to younger audiences. While Four Color itself ended shortly after this run, Turok remained a recurring figure in the medium, ultimately becoming a staple of Western-genre adventure comics.
