Where it came from
Gate: Jietai - Kano Chi Nite, Kaku Tatakaeri, authored by Takumi Yanai, originated as a web novel on the Arcadia site before being picked up for professional light novel publication in 2010. The manga adaptation, illustrated by Satoru Sao and serialized in AlphaPolis's Monthly Comic Gate, serves as a visual expansion of Yanai's military-fantasy premise, which explores the geopolitical and tactical implications of a portal opening between modern-day Japan and a secondary fantasy world.
Issue number 28 serves as a specific installment in the long-running manga serialisation, maintaining the aesthetic established by Sao, which prioritizes a blend of modern military hardware and traditional high-fantasy creature design. The series garnered significant attention for its controversial fusion of Japan Self-Defense Forces propaganda and isekai tropes, leading to a polarizing reception among critics who debated its ideological messaging versus its execution of large-scale tactical set pieces.
