Gøg og Gokke #17

Gøg og Gokke, the Danish localized title for the legendary comedy duo Laurel and Hardy, became the subject of a long-running comic book series in Denmark. Issue number 17 is part of a mid-century publication history that translated the slapstick charm of the short films into the static medium of sequential art. These comics were produced to capitalize on the enduring popularity of the pair, who remained cultural icons in Scandinavia long after their films had reached their peak domestic release.

The design of these issues relied on established graphic conventions of the era, utilizing caricature-style illustrations to capture the distinct physical mannerisms of Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy. Artists tasked with these depictions aimed to maintain the recognizable expressions and chaotic energy of the duo's screen personas. While often treated as ephemeral reading material for youth at the time, these issues are now regarded as significant pieces of pop culture history that document the reach and adaptation of American comedy during the twentieth century.
