G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero #47

Published by Marvel Comics in May 1986, G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero #47 was part of a long-running series that expanded the lore of Hasbro's popular action figure line. Written by Larry Hama, who was instrumental in crafting the complex backstories and character personalities that defined the franchise, this issue continues the intricate geopolitical conflicts between the G.I. Joe team and the terrorist organization Cobra. The series was designed to serve as both an engaging adventure comic and a promotional vehicle for the toy line, successfully bridging the gap between play and narrative.

The interior artwork for this period of the series was typically handled by artists like Rod Whigham, whose clean, dynamic style helped solidify the visual identity of the characters for a generation of readers. The series was widely received as a benchmark for licensed comics, often praised for its tactical realism and character-driven plots that elevated it above standard toy-tie-in material. Issue #47 reflects the era's focus on military-themed suspense and the ongoing struggle for global stability that defined the core G.I. Joe mythology.
