G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero #62

Released in 1987 by Marvel Comics, G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero #62 was a pivotal installment in the long-running series scripted by Larry Hama. During this era, Hama was deeply involved in crafting the lore of the franchise, often working closely with Hasbro to ensure the comic book narratives mirrored the developing action figure line while expanding upon the psychological depth of the characters. This specific issue served as part of the broader, ongoing conflict between the G.I. Joe team and the terrorist organization Cobra, contributing to the series' reputation for high-stakes military drama.

The cover and interior art for this period of the series featured artists like Ron Wagner, whose work was instrumental in defining the aesthetic of the G.I. Joe universe throughout the late 1980s. The design approach focused on dynamic, gritty action sequences that balanced the sci-fi elements of the toy line with grounded tactical storytelling. The issue was well-received by fans of the time for maintaining the complex character dynamics that elevated the title beyond its origins as a promotional vehicle for Hasbro's plastic figures.
