G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero #66

Published in December 1987 by Marvel Comics, G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero #66 stands as a key installment in the long-running series scripted by Larry Hama. During this period, Hama was instrumental in building the deep, character-driven lore of the franchise, often balancing high-stakes military action with the personal internal struggles of the Joe team members. This issue maintains the gritty, tactical tone that defined the title's tenure under Marvel, contributing to the series' reputation for sophisticated storytelling within the licensed toy-tie-in genre.

The issue features artwork by Ron Wagner, who served as a primary penciler for the series during the mid-to-late 1980s. Wagner’s style was noted for its clarity in rendering complex combat sequences and distinct character silhouettes, which was essential for a property based on a line of 3.75-inch action figures. The creative direction aimed to translate the play patterns of the Hasbro toys into a cohesive, serialized military drama that resonated with both younger readers and older collectors of the time.
