Where it came from
Gladstone Giant #2 was published in 1986 as part of a short-lived but highly regarded series from Gladstone Publishing. This imprint was established by Bruce Hamilton and Carl Barks enthusiast Russ Cochran with the express purpose of reviving high-quality Disney comic book reprints in the United States, filling the void left when Western Publishing ceased its long-running Disney line.
The series was designed to showcase the work of legendary Disney creators, most notably Carl Barks. Gladstone Giant #2 focused on lengthy, epic-scale adventures, intentionally formatted in a larger, premium size to highlight the detailed panel art. The initiative was well-received by collectors and historians for its commitment to archival quality and editorial respect, helping to cement the status of Barks' work as a cornerstone of American comic art.
