Where it came from
Gladstone Giant #4, published in 1987, emerged during the late 1980s when Gladstone Publishing held the license to produce Disney comic books in the United States. This series was designed as a premium, oversized format publication that showcased the work of legendary Disney artist Carl Barks, who was instrumental in defining the personality and adventures of Donald Duck and his extended family.
The issue features a collection of classic Barks stories, adhering to the high production standards of the Gladstone line. By utilizing larger pages and superior paper quality compared to standard newsstand comics, Gladstone sought to present these mid-century classics as archival works for a mature readership. The series was well-received by fans and critics alike for bringing the celebrated 'Duck' canon back into circulation after a period of limited availability.
