Where it came from
Released in 2015 as the conclusion to the first year of DC Comics' Grayson series, this issue serves as a pivotal bridge in the narrative arc of Dick Grayson. The series was born out of the events of Forever Evil, which saw Grayson's secret identity as Nightwing publicly exposed, forcing him to abandon his costumed persona to become a deep-cover operative for the clandestine organization Spyral.
The creative team, led by writers Tom King and Tim Seeley with art by Mikel Janín, aimed to deconstruct the traditional superhero narrative by focusing on espionage, identity, and the psychological toll of dual lives. This specific issue was critically received for its sharp characterization and the stylistic departure from the typical Gotham-centric Batman family stories, effectively cementing the title's reputation for high-concept storytelling within the DC Universe.
