Guardians of the Galaxy #57

Guardians of the Galaxy #57 was published in January 1995 as part of the original 1990s series. This run, written primarily by Jim Valentino and later Michael Gallagher, explored the adventures of the 31st-century team in an alternate future of the Marvel Universe. At the time of this issue's release, the series was navigating the complex cosmic storylines established in the aftermath of the Infinity Gauntlet era, focusing on the team's ongoing struggle against various interstellar threats.

The cover and interior art for this period of the series featured a shifting roster of contributors tasked with maintaining a distinct, space-faring aesthetic that diverged from traditional Earth-based superhero narratives. The design and visual direction were aimed at carving out a niche in Marvel's cosmic line, relying on bold, often surreal character designs and intricate world-building. Reception of this specific era of the Guardians was modest but dedicated, ultimately cementing the team's foundation before their later reinvention in the mid-2000s.
