Where it came from
Guardians of the Galaxy issue 60 was released in 1995 as part of the original series that debuted in 1990. This title featured the team's 31st-century iteration, led by Vance Astro and Yondu, long before the modern cinematic lineup took center stage. The story arc during this period focused on the team's efforts to protect the future of the Marvel Universe from various cosmic threats, leaning into the darker, more introspective tone typical of 90s space-faring comics.
The issue features artwork and creative direction consistent with the series' long-running tenure under writer Michael Gallagher and artist Kevin West. The design and narrative direction were intended to maintain a sense of legacy while navigating complex intergalactic conflicts. Upon its release, the issue was received as a niche addition to the Marvel cosmic library, appreciated by dedicated readers who followed the intricate, often convoluted lore established by Jim Valentino during the series' inception.
