Guardians of the Galaxy Annual #4

Guardians of the Galaxy Annual #4 was published by Marvel Comics in 1994 during the original run of the series, which focused on the futuristic team operating in the 31st century. This era of the Guardians, created by Arnold Drake and Gene Colan in 1969, experienced a creative renaissance in the 1990s under writers like Jim Valentino. The annuals were designed to expand upon the core cosmic mythology of the team, offering readers self-contained stories that delved into the complex political landscape of the Marvel 31st-century timeline.

The creative direction of this period emphasized high-concept science fiction narratives, distinct from the contemporary Earth-based Avengers or X-Men titles. The cover and interior art from this era are characteristic of the 90s aesthetic, balancing dense, action-oriented panels with the expansive, colorful world-building required of a space-faring ensemble. While this iteration of the team predates the modern cinematic versions, it remains a cult classic among fans of bronze-to-copper age cosmic storytelling.
