Hǎishòu zhī Zǐ #4

Hǎishòu zhī Zǐ, known internationally as Children of the Sea, is a celebrated manga series written and illustrated by Daisuke Igarashi. First serialized in IKKI magazine beginning in 2006, the work emerged as a profound exploration of humanity's connection to the ocean and the cosmos. The fourth volume serves as a critical bridge in the narrative, deepening the metaphysical journey of the protagonist, Ruka, as she encounters the mysterious boys Umi and Sora.

Igarashi is widely lauded for his intricate, fluid pen work and ability to render natural environments with a sense of living, breathing intensity. His design approach for this series deviates from standard manga aesthetics, opting for a lush, illustrative style that captures both the crushing depths of the sea and the ethereal quality of cosmic phenomena. Upon its release, the series was critically acclaimed, winning the Excellence Prize at the 38th Japan Cartoonists Association Awards for its atmospheric storytelling and artistic ambition.
