Hellblazer #201

Hellblazer number 201, released in 2004, is part of the long-running Vertigo Comics series featuring the occult detective John Constantine. Published during a transitional era for the title, this issue is notable for being part of the creative run by writer Mike Carey, who is highly regarded for his character-driven approach to the cynical magician. The narrative continues Constantine’s journey through the darker, grittier corners of the DC Universe, leaning into the supernatural horror and socio-political commentary that defined the mature-readers imprint.

The visual aesthetic of this period maintained the atmospheric, noir-inspired tone essential to the Hellblazer mythos, featuring art that emphasizes shadows and the grim reality of Constantine's world. By the time this issue was released, the character had been established as a cornerstone of the Vertigo line for nearly two decades. It was received by readers as a steady continuation of Carey's acclaimed tenure, praised for balancing Constantine's personal moral decay with the high-stakes magical conflicts that defined his ongoing struggle against both internal and external demons.
