Heroes for Hire #12

Published in 1998, Heroes for Hire #12 serves as the concluding chapter of the original series written by John Ostrander. The title was a revival of the classic Marvel team concept, focusing on a mercenary agency led by Luke Cage and Iron Fist. By the time this issue was released, the series was navigating the evolving landscape of Marvel Comics in the late nineties, striving to balance gritty street-level crime stories with the expansive superhero continuity of the era.

The interior art for this final issue was handled by Pasqual Ferry, whose dynamic and stylized approach helped define the visual tone of the book’s latter half. The creative team aimed to wrap up the overarching conflicts established during the run, providing a sense of closure for the central characters. While the series did not reach the longevity of its seventies predecessor, the 1998 run is frequently cited by collectors for its exploration of the complex professional and personal dynamics between the titular heroes.
