Where it came from
Published by Marvel Comics in 1998, Heroes for Hire #15 represents the conclusion of the original series written by John Ostrander with art by Pascual Ferry. The title centered on a mercenary team led by Heroes for Hire stalwarts Luke Cage and Iron Fist, attempting to navigate the precarious professional landscape of the Marvel Universe after the team was caught in the crossfire of larger company-wide crossovers.
The creative direction under Ostrander aimed to ground the team’s dynamics in gritty, character-driven narratives while incorporating the energetic, stylized visual flair that defined late-nineties Marvel aesthetic. While the series was cancelled following this issue, it is remembered for its attempt to revitalize classic street-level characters and has since gained retrospective appreciation among collectors for its role in bridging the gap between the nineties era and the modern revitalizations of these iconic vigilantes.
