Where it came from
Higurashi When They Cry: MEGURI serves as the official manga adaptation of the Higurashi When They Cry: Gou and Sotsu anime series. Published by Kadokawa Shoten, the series was launched to provide a definitive narrative conclusion to the revamped anime storyline, written by the original creator Ryukishi07 and illustrated by Tomato Akase. This fifth volume continues the complex narrative structure characteristic of the franchise, focusing on the resolution of the tragic loops inherent to the Hinamizawa setting.
The design and artistic direction for this volume are heavily influenced by the visual aesthetic established in the modern anime adaptation, with Tomato Akase capturing the shift between the series' signature psychological horror and its lighter character-driven moments. The work was received by the franchise's long-term fanbase as a significant companion piece, valued for its ability to clarify narrative ambiguities from the broadcast version and for its faithful adherence to the source material's tonal shifts.
