Where it came from
Higurashi When They Cry: MEGURI serves as the official manga adaptation of the Higurashi Gou/Sotsu anime arc, published by Kadokawa. This series was created to bridge the narrative gaps and provide a distinct interpretation of the events surrounding the Matsuribayashi-hen timeline, overseen by the original creator Ryukishi07. Issue number four continues the intense psychological horror and mystery elements that define the franchise, focusing on the dark cycle of paranoia and trauma within the village of Hinamizawa.
The illustrations for this series are provided by Tomato Akase, who adopts an art style that balances the series' signature transition between lighthearted slice-of-life sequences and jarring, visceral terror. Upon its release, the manga was well-received by fans of the visual novel series for its commitment to the complex lore and the successful visual translation of the anime's high-stakes confrontations, reinforcing the enduring legacy of the When They Cry intellectual property.
