Where it came from
Higurashi When They Cry: MEGURI serves as the official manga adaptation of the Higurashi Gou/Sotsu anime timeline, written by Ryukishi07 and illustrated by Tomato Akase. The series was launched to provide a definitive narrative path through the complex events of the reboot era, focusing on the resolution of the tragedies within Hinamizawa. Issue #2 continues the unfolding mystery, building upon the foundations established by the original visual novels while integrating the new plot elements introduced in the anime adaptation.
The artistic direction by Tomato Akase maintains the established visual identity of the franchise while adapting the high-stakes, suspenseful tone characteristic of the When They Cry series. Published through the Kadokawa Young Ace Up platform, the work is intended to bridge the gap between the rebooted anime series and the franchise's deeper lore. It has been received as a crucial supplement for fans seeking to understand the specific motivations and branching paths of the Gou/Sotsu story arc.
