Hybrids: The Origin #3

Hybrids: The Origin #3 was published during the mid-1990s, a period defined by the independent comic book boom that followed the speculative frenzy of the era. The series was produced by Entity Comics, a publisher that gained a niche following for its focus on science fiction and gothic-themed narratives. The title emerged from a climate where small-press creators sought to capitalize on the success of darker, more mature-themed superhero stories, aiming to establish a unique aesthetic identity through stylized, often hyper-detailed illustrations typical of the independent scene at the time.

The creative direction for the series prioritized a blend of body horror and speculative science fiction, utilizing the visual language of the nineties underground comic aesthetic. The design and narrative execution were intended to push the boundaries of the then-popular 'extreme' style of character design. While the series did not reach the mainstream prominence of larger publishers, it remains a recognized example of the experimental storytelling and gritty artistic experimentation that characterized the independent comic market during that decade.
