Where it came from
Impulse #62, published by DC Comics in July 2000, is part of the long-running series featuring Bart Allen, the grandson of Barry Allen. Created by writer Mark Waid and artist Humberto Ramos, the series was celebrated for its lighthearted, frenetic energy that contrasted with the grittier tone of many comics during that era. The narrative focus remained centered on Bart's struggle to balance his impulsive nature with the responsibilities of being a speedster.
This specific issue was written by Todd Dezago and illustrated by Carlo Barberi. At this stage in the series, the creative team sought to ground Bart in his civilian life as a student in Manchester, Alabama, while maintaining the series' signature comedic timing. It represents the mid-run transition of the character as he began to mature from a impulsive teenager into a more deliberate hero, a progression that defined his character arc leading into his eventual tenure with the Teen Titans.
