Impulse #87

Impulse #87 was published by DC Comics in August 2002 as part of the long-running series featuring Bart Allen, the speedster grandson of Barry Allen. This issue arrived toward the end of the original Impulse run, which had established itself as a lighthearted counterpoint to the more somber superhero comics of the late 1990s. The series was defined by its focus on Bart’s struggle to mature from a impulsive teenager into a responsible hero, capturing the unique tone of the post-Crisis DC Universe.

The issue features cover art and interior work consistent with the series' later era, characterized by a transition toward more grounded storytelling before the character’s eventual evolution into Kid Flash. The narrative direction of this period was heavily influenced by the goal of integrating Bart more deeply into the broader Young Justice and Teen Titans mythos. Fans and critics often remember this period for maintaining the series' signature blend of high-speed action and character-driven humor even as the creative landscape at DC began to shift.
