Incredible Hulk #104

Published in June 1968, Incredible Hulk #104 represents a pivotal moment in the character's publication history as the series transitioned from the split-book format of Tales to Astonish back to an independent title. This issue continues the narrative arc written by Gary Friedrich, which captures the angst and internal conflict that defined the Hulk during the late 1960s. At this stage, the character was firmly established as one of Marvel's most complex protagonists, oscillating between the misunderstood monster and the desperate humanity of Bruce Banner.

The interior artwork for this issue was provided by Marie Severin, whose contributions to the Hulk remain highly regarded for their expressive, dynamic energy. Her tenure on the book was marked by a distinct ability to balance the brute, visceral power of the Hulk with the emotional vulnerability required for Banner's perspective. The cover, illustrated by Herb Trimpe, aligns with the era's dramatic sensibilities, emphasizing the isolation and constant pursuit that served as the thematic bedrock of the series during this period.
