In/Spectre #1

In/Spectre #1 serves as the inaugural chapter of the manga series written by Kyo Shirodaira and illustrated by Chashiba Katase. First serialized in 2015, the work originated from a light novel series that blended supernatural mystery with folklore, aiming to subvert typical tropes by focusing on the mediation of spirits rather than direct combat. The manga adaptation was designed to bring a sharp, modern visual aesthetic to the ethereal concepts of Japanese mythology, featuring character designs that emphasize the protagonist Kotoko Iwanaga's pragmatic yet mystical role.

Upon its release, the series garnered attention for its dialogue-heavy approach to urban fantasy, distinguishing it from more action-oriented titles of the era. The manga was received as a sophisticated expansion of Shirodaira’s world, with Katase's intricate linework being praised for capturing the eerie, contemplative atmosphere of the series. It has since become a notable entry in the supernatural genre, eventually receiving an anime adaptation that further solidified its place in contemporary manga culture.
