It's Jeff: Brand New Week #1

It's Jeff: Brand New Week #1 originated from a silent, lighthearted Marvel Comics digital series centered on Jeff the Land Shark, a fan-favorite character introduced in the West Coast Avengers run. Following the success of the character's wordless adventures on the Marvel Unlimited platform, the publisher curated these vignettes for a print collection. The stories were created by writer Kelly Thompson and artist Gurihiru, a Japanese creative duo known for their clean, expressive, and minimalist aesthetic, which perfectly suited the character's mischievous and endearing nature.

The design and narrative focus of the series emphasize pure visual storytelling, eschewing dialogue to make the humor accessible to all ages. Gurihiru's vibrant, manga-influenced art style emphasizes fluid movement and emotive character acting, which resonated strongly with both long-term comic readers and newer audiences drawn to the character's meme-like popularity. Upon its transition from digital exclusive to physical print, the series was received as a refreshing, low-stakes departure from the heavy continuity often found in major superhero comics.
