Justice League America #42

Justice League America #42, published in September 1990, serves as a pivotal entry in the Keith Giffen and J.M. DeMatteis era of the series. This issue is notable for its exploration of the team's interpersonal dynamics and political tensions, continuing the series' signature blend of superhero action and situational humor. The narrative was penciled by Adam Hughes, marking one of his early professional contributions to the DC Universe, characterized by a transition toward a more refined, illustrative style that would later define his career.

The issue is particularly remembered for the 'Justice League Antarctica' arc, where the team faced the mundane challenges of budget cuts and bureaucratic oversight. The creative team aimed to ground the god-like members of the Justice League in the frustrations of corporate management and international diplomacy. Upon its release, this run was well-received for humanizing established characters and offering a satirical take on the traditional superhero team-up, solidifying its place in the history of the Justice League's lighter, character-driven storytelling.
