Justice League America #44

Justice League America #44, published in 1990, serves as a pivotal entry in the 'Justice League' run spearheaded by writers Keith Giffen and J.M. DeMatteis. Emerging from the post-Crisis on Infinite Earths era, this series was notable for its distinct tonal shift toward interpersonal character drama and situational humor, diverging from the traditional gravitas of earlier incarnations. This specific issue is recognized for its contribution to the ongoing subplots involving the team's dynamics, maintaining the series' balance between high-stakes heroics and mundane office-like friction.

The interior art was provided by Adam Hughes, whose early work on this title helped establish his reputation for fluid, expressive character rendering. Hughes’s approach prioritized naturalistic posing and subtle facial animation, which complemented Giffen and DeMatteis’s character-centric scripts. The issue was received well by readers who appreciated the creative team's ability to maintain a consistent internal logic and humor within the evolving DC Universe, solidifying this period of the Justice League as a defining run for a generation of fans.
