Where it came from
Justice League International #25 was published in 1989, serving as a landmark issue in the critically acclaimed run spearheaded by writers Keith Giffen and J.M. DeMatteis with art by Adam Hughes. This era of the Justice League was defined by a shift toward workplace comedy and interpersonal drama, distancing the team from the more serious, epic tone typical of DC's flagship titles at the time.
The issue is particularly noted for featuring the early interior work of Adam Hughes, whose distinctively fluid and character-focused illustrative style helped cement the visual identity of the series. By balancing the absurdity of the League's bureaucratic struggles with genuine emotional stakes, the creative team successfully revitalized the brand, and the issue remains a touchstone for readers who appreciate the series' unique blend of humor and superhero action.
