Where it came from
Ka-Zar the Savage #24, published in 1983, serves as a notable entry in the series that revitalized the Marvel Comics character Kevin Plunder, the lord of the hidden jungle land of Ka-Zar. Following the character's earlier appearances in the Silver Age, this iteration sought to capture a grittier, more adventurous tone that leaned into the pulp sensibilities of Tarzan-style narratives while integrating the character into the broader Marvel Universe.
The issue features artwork by Brent Anderson and writing by Bruce Jones, a creative team celebrated for bringing a moody, atmospheric quality to the title. Their work on this run is often highlighted by fans for its focus on character psychology and the distinct ecological isolation of the Savage Land, marking a stylistic departure from the more bombastic superhero stories prevalent at the time.
