Kaoru und Rin - So nah und doch so fern #1

Kaoru und Rin - So nah und doch so fern, originally published in Japan as Futari Ecchi, is a long-running seinen manga series written and illustrated by Katsu Aki. The series debuted in 1997 in the magazine Young Animal, emerging during a period when the seinen demographic was seeing increased experimentation with domestic comedy and romantic themes. The work focuses on the early married life of a young couple, Kaoru and Rin, navigating the awkward and educational realities of their new relationship with a blend of humor and earnest romantic exploration.

The design and narrative approach reflect Katsu Aki’s signature style, which emphasizes detailed character expressions and a lighthearted, observational tone regarding intimate development. Upon its release, the series became a notable commercial success within Japan for its longevity and consistent premise. It has since been licensed globally, with the German translation published by Carlsen Manga, maintaining its core aesthetic of approachable, character-driven storytelling that balanced educational elements with genre-standard tropes.
