Karate Kid #11

Karate Kid #11 was published by DC Comics in 1978, serving as a late installment in the title's short-lived solo series. The character Val Armorr, originally created by Jim Shooter in the 1960s as a member of the Legion of Super-Heroes, was granted his own book in 1976 during a period when DC was attempting to expand its reach with martial arts-themed storytelling. This issue reflects the late seventies aesthetic of comic book production, balancing superhero tropes with the popular fascination for martial arts cinema of that era.

The issue features artwork consistent with the series' house style of the time, often associated with penciler Ric Estrada. The creative team aimed to ground the futuristic science-fiction setting of the 30th century with the gritty, disciplined philosophy of traditional karate. While the series did not sustain a long-term run, it remains a notable example of DC’s experimentation with character-specific spin-offs, and it is appreciated today primarily by collectors of the Legion of Super-Heroes mythos.
