Karate Kid #8

Karate Kid #8 was published by DC Comics in 1977 as part of the character's first self-titled solo series. The character, Val Armorr, was originally created by Jim Shooter and Jim Mooney in 1966 as a member of the Legion of Super-Heroes. By the late 1970s, the burgeoning popularity of martial arts cinema in Western culture prompted DC to leverage the character's unique combat skills into his own short-lived ongoing title.

The issue features cover art by Mike Grell and interiors by Ric Estrada, who handled much of the series' visual direction during this run. The creative team aimed to blend traditional superhero tropes with a grounded martial arts aesthetic, reflecting the era's fascination with Eastern disciplines. While the series did not achieve long-term commercial success, it remains a notable example of DC's efforts to diversify its genre offerings during the Bronze Age of comics.
