This light novel series, titled in English as 'My Contract Marriage Partner Was a Demon King, but I, the Plain Bureaucrat (Currently Disguised), Have Been Appointed as the Prime Minister’s Special Assistant', emerged from the popular Japanese web novel platform Shosetsuka ni Naro. The series fits into the burgeoning subgenre of bureaucratic fantasy, where the focus shifts from high-stakes combat to the intricate political maneuverings and office dynamics of a magical kingdom. It was published in print by Earth Star Entertainment, reflecting the company’s focus on light novels that offer a blend of comedy, romance, and fantasy world-building.

The character design and illustrations for the series were crafted to highlight the contrast between the protagonist’s unassuming, plain facade and her hidden capabilities. By utilizing a narrative voice that emphasizes the absurdity of corporate-style hierarchies within a supernatural setting, the series successfully catered to a readership seeking character-driven stories with a humorous twist. The third volume continues this established tone, focusing on the escalating challenges the protagonist faces as she attempts to maintain her disguise while navigating the increasingly complex demands of her royal responsibilities.
