Kekkon Shimashō, Koisuru Mae ni #1

Kekkon Shimashō, Koisuru Mae ni, a manga series illustrated by Takako Shigematsu, emerged during a period of shifting trends in the shōjo manga genre. Published by Akita Shoten, the series explores themes of intimacy, societal expectations regarding marriage, and the emotional complexities of early adulthood. The narrative reflects the character-driven style common to Shigematsu’s work, which emphasizes subtle shifts in interpersonal dynamics over traditional plot-heavy tropes.

The series design and aesthetic draw on the romantic sensibilities prevalent in late 20th and early 21st-century Japanese comics. Readers have generally noted the series for its focus on the psychological development of its protagonists, positioning it as a thoughtful addition to the domestic romance subgenre. As an initial volume, the first issue serves to ground the reader in the central conceit, setting a tone that is introspective and grounded rather than overtly dramatic.
