Kilroy is Here #1

Kilroy is Here #1 was released in 1987 by Eclipse Comics as a tie-in to the rock opera concept album of the same name by the band Styx. The comic book was designed to expand upon the narrative themes of the album, which centered on a dystopian future where rock music is outlawed by the authoritarian government known as the Majority for Musical Morality.

The creative team behind the series sought to capture the high-concept, theatrical tone of Dennis DeYoung’s vision, utilizing the medium to flesh out the backstories of the album's central characters, such as Robert Orin Charles Kilroy. While the comic served as a dedicated piece of memorabilia for the band's fanbase, its reception was primarily limited to that niche audience, reflecting the era's experimentation with transmedia storytelling in the music and comic industries.
