Kimi ga Kemono ni Naru Mae ni #2

Kimi ga Kemono ni Naru Mae ni, authored by Kentaro Hashimoto, is a psychological thriller manga series serialized in Kodansha's Morning magazine starting in 2021. The narrative follows a man grieving the loss of his childhood friend, who was involved in a tragic terrorist incident, as he discovers a mysterious ability to travel back in time to prevent the catastrophe. The second volume continues the tense exploration of trauma and the moral complexities of altering the past, maintaining the series' grim, grounded aesthetic.

Hashimoto’s illustrative style is characterized by heavy shadows and intense facial expressions, which effectively convey the protagonist's growing desperation and the underlying sense of dread inherent in the story. Upon its release, the volume was noted for its departure from traditional time-loop tropes, focusing instead on the social decay and human fragility that lead characters to become 'beasts.' It received critical attention for its challenging subject matter and remains a notable entry in the contemporary seinen genre.
