La Mano y los Seis Dedos #1

La Mano y los Seis Dedos is a foundational work of Spanish underground comics, first appearing in the early 1980s within the pages of the magazine El Víbora. Created by the influential artist Daniel Torres, this series emerged during the Movida Madrileña, a period of intense creative expression in post-Franco Spain. The narrative reflects the satirical and subversive spirit of the era, utilizing a unique aesthetic that blended classic pulp science fiction with the darker, more cynical sensibilities of the European adult comic scene.

The design of the series is celebrated for Torres' clean, precise line work and his clear line style, which draws inspiration from classic illustration while subverting genre tropes. In this inaugural issue, Torres established the surreal and dystopian setting that would define the series, focusing on a society governed by complex social hierarchies and grotesque biological mutations. The work was well-received by critics for its intellectual depth and visual technicality, marking a pivotal moment in the professionalization of the Spanish alternative comic industry.
