Where it came from
La Zorra y el Cuervo was a prominent Cuban comic book series that debuted in the mid-1960s, heavily inspired by the classic Aesop fable. Produced by the Editorial Abril and later managed through various state-run publishing entities, the series was created to provide accessible, humorous reading material for Cuban youth, featuring the cunning fox and the dim-witted crow in a slapstick dynamic that mirrored international cartoons like Looney Tunes.
The character designs were characterized by expressive, high-contrast line work typical of the era's socialist-realist approach to humor comics. Issue #140 represents a mid-to-late period entry in the series, reflecting the refined artistic style developed by the editorial teams during the 1970s and 1980s. These comics are now highly valued by collectors as cultural artifacts of post-revolutionary Cuban popular culture and graphic design history.
