Where it came from
La Zorra y el Cuervo was a prominent Cuban humor magazine that drew its primary inspiration from the classic La Fontaine fables, featuring the titular fox and crow as recurring characters. The publication served as a staple of Cuban pop culture, blending sharp social satire with accessible, cartoonish aesthetics that resonated with a wide readership throughout the mid-to-late 20th century.
Issue #229 represents a specific entry in the magazine's long-standing run, which was curated by a collective of talented Cuban illustrators and writers dedicated to political commentary and domestic humor. The design aesthetic was characterized by its minimalist line work and high-contrast printing, reflecting the aesthetic standards of state-supported print media of the era, and it remains a significant touchstone for collectors of Latin American graphic arts.
