Lady Devil #1

Lady Devil #1 was published in 1980 by Editions Lug, a French publishing house renowned for bringing American-style comics and original European creations to the francophone market. This series emerged during a period of experimentation within the adult-oriented pocket-book format, intended to capture the interest of readers looking for darker, supernatural thriller narratives characterized by pulp sensibilities and dramatic, high-contrast imagery.

The series is often noted for its provocative aesthetic, which drew heavily from the exploitation graphic trends of the era. The character design and internal illustrations were intended to evoke a sense of gothic mystery and danger, blending fantasy elements with crime tropes. While not reaching the cultural ubiquity of mainstream Franco-Belgian comics, the series maintains a dedicated following among collectors of European pulp comics due to its distinct, evocative cover art and its role as a niche artifact of 1980s continental pop culture.
