Lazarus Order #1

Lazarus Order #1 was published as part of an independent comic book initiative, emerging from a landscape of creator-owned projects that sought to revitalize genre fiction through a lens of speculative intrigue. The series was designed to explore themes of survival and organizational shadows, aiming to ground its high-concept premise in the tactile, gritty aesthetic that defined much of the mid-2010s independent comic scene. The art and narrative were structured to establish a distinct visual identity that prioritized atmospheric storytelling over traditional superhero tropes.

The creative direction for this opening issue focused on building an immersive, albeit cryptic, world that encouraged reader engagement with mystery and slow-burn character development. It was received by the direct-market community as a niche entry, appreciated by those who sought unconventional pacing and experimental layouts. The design philosophy relied on a muted palette and stark line work to distinguish the series from mainstream publications of the time, positioning it as a thoughtful addition for collectors interested in the evolution of indie anthology and serial storytelling.
