Where it came from
La Zorra y el Cuervo was a prominent Cuban humor magazine that debuted in 1965, emerging during a period of significant cultural shifts following the Cuban Revolution. Published by the Editorial de Revistas of the Instituto Cubano del Libro, it served as a platform for political satire, social commentary, and comic strips, designed to engage readers with sharp wit and observational humor regarding daily life, bureaucracy, and international relations.
The publication drew heavily from the strong tradition of caricature and illustration in Cuban journalism. The inaugural issue established the visual identity and editorial voice that would define the series for decades, featuring a roster of talented illustrators and satirists. While individual contributions varied, the work was received as an accessible, popular medium for artistic expression that navigated the complex social climate of its time through the lens of irony and visual storytelling.
