Le Dit du Genji - Asaki Yumemishi #6

Asaki Yumemishi is a celebrated manga adaptation of the 11th-century Japanese literary masterpiece The Tale of Genji, authored by Murasaki Shikibu. This adaptation was written and illustrated by Waki Yamato, who began serializing the work in the late 1970s. The series is widely considered the definitive manga interpretation of the classic, praised for its meticulous attention to Heian-period aesthetics, courtly intrigue, and the emotional complexity of its protagonist, Hikaru Genji.

The French edition, titled Le Dit du Genji, was published to introduce francophone readers to this foundational text of Japanese literature through the lens of shōjo manga. The sixth volume continues to follow the intricate romantic and political entanglements of the imperial court. Yamato’s artistic style, characterized by delicate linework and evocative depictions of traditional costume and architecture, was instrumental in garnering critical acclaim and helping the series serve as an educational touchstone for classical Japanese culture in the West.
