Le Fantôme #388

Le Fantôme, the French language adaptation of the long-running American newspaper comic strip The Phantom, has served as a staple of European newsstands for decades. Issue #388 emerged during the era of Lug, the prolific French publisher known for translating various American adventure and superhero properties. These issues were typically printed on inexpensive newsprint to serve the popular demand for serialized, action-oriented storytelling, reflecting the mid-century European fascination with American pulp heroes.

The character, originally created by Lee Falk in 1936, remains iconic for establishing the archetype of the costumed vigilante. In the French publications, the artwork frequently utilized a blend of original American syndicate strips supplemented by regional covers. The aesthetic of issue #388 follows the traditional pulp sensibility of the series, focusing on high-contrast illustrations meant to capture the eye on busy newsstands, maintaining the mysterious, justice-driven narrative that defined the 'Ghost Who Walks' for international audiences.
