Le Loup et l'Agnelle #1

Le Loup et l'Agnelle #1 is an illustrative work rooted in the long tradition of adapting Jean de La Fontaine’s classic fables into graphic form. Emerging from the French bande dessinée tradition, this issue serves as a contemporary visual interpretation of the moral tales that have been central to French literature since the 17th century. It was created to provide a modern, accessible entry point for readers to engage with these timeless narratives, utilizing sequential art to highlight the power dynamics and underlying social commentaries present in the original texts.

The design of this work focuses on a balance between classical storytelling and modern character aesthetic. The illustrators involved in this series sought to maintain the gravity of La Fontaine’s cautionary fables while introducing a dynamic visual pace suitable for a serialized format. Upon its release, the issue was noted for its artistic commitment to capturing the essence of the predator-prey dynamic, receiving recognition for its ability to breathe fresh life into didactic fables that have been reimagined by generations of artists and authors.
