Legionnaires #66

Legionnaires #66, published in October 1998, serves as a pivotal chapter during the 'Legion of Super-Heroes' post-Zero Hour reboot era. This period of DC Comics history sought to streamline the convoluted continuity of the 30th-century team, focusing on a more grounded and character-driven approach to the superhero ensemble. The series was designed to explore the interpersonal dynamics and internal politics of the Legion, contrasting with the more cosmic-scale storytelling found in the companion title, Legion of Super-Heroes.

The issue features the creative collaboration of writer Tom McCraw and artist Lee Moder, who were instrumental in defining the visual and narrative identity of this iteration of the team. Moder’s clean, expressive linework was well-regarded for capturing the youthful energy of the teenage heroes, a stylistic choice that resonated with readers looking for a fresh take on the classic concepts. While the issue is a mid-run installment, it is frequently cited by collectors for its role in maintaining the narrative momentum of the 'Legion Lost' precursor storylines and the maturation of the ensemble cast.
